Daily Dabble: Eye Popper – The Dragon’s Blood Tree

February 9th, 2014 No Comments

It figures that this tree is in the Dracaena family, lol.  Which just so happens to be one of my faves.  Nevertheless, this spectacular looking plant is commonly called the “Dragon’s Blood Tree” (what a brilliant name!  love it).  The tree get’s its name for the wonderful red sap that it contains, and is believed to be the blood of real dragons.  (See this is an awesome tree.  I want one!)  It’s native to Socotra, and has had many uses throughout the years.  Those on the island still use it for wound healing, as a coagulant, cure for diarrhea, for dysentery diseases, for lowering fevers. It is also taken for ulcers in the mouth, throat, intestines and stomach.  The sap is also used to this day as a varnish for violins.  Of course all that aside, I just think it looks fricking amazing!!  I wonder if I could get one to grow here?  I wonder if the powers that be would even let me?  O_o
