Daily Dabbles: Chin Up

487344_360790150657833_874253527_nThis is a hard one I have to admit, and I struggle with it all the time.  In my heart though, I realize it’s right.  When you boil it right down to the facts, no one can make you unhappy without your consent.  Shocker I know, and most of you will probably argue otherwise.  True that things happen to us that brings us down or upset us.  If you are honest with yourself (which isn’t always easy) every situation, no matter the source or outcome, can never hurt you.  Why?  When something “bad” happens what do you think would happen if you simply said, so be it, and didn’t let it get to you?  Life is a choice.  Happiness is a choice.  It may not be easy to choose, but it is still a choice.  Because in the end, you are the only one who can make your life what you want it.  You are the only one who can make yourself happy.  No one else can do it for you.  Therefore, no one else can ever take those things away from you unless you let them.

About the author

I’m a Goth/Hippie who loves to try new things and dabbles in anything and everything that I find enjoyment in. That can include but is not limited to, cooking, art, digital design, jewellery making, photography, gardening, nature, animals and whatever else strikes my fancy. I’m an optimistic (occasionally) perfectionist (constantly), who can be very sarcastic (incessantly), but all in good humour. :)

There is so much truth to this. You do choose how to be about something. What seems to make it tricky is the line between blindly ignoring reality and choosing to not let something bother you. I guess it’s like all “rules” in life… you have to apply them intelligently.

I know I’m a very reactionary person. I feel things deeply (and have no intention of ever trying to change that). And there is much in this world that pisses me off. But for have lived a fairly alienated lonely life in a world filled with things I would change, my usual stance is surprisingly positive. And I think that’s where the choice comes in. I choose who I am at the core, even though the world can really shake me off that center sometimes. The choice is where your center is.

Agreed. I am the same way and it is hard for me to step back from something that gets my blood boiling. That fact as gotten me into a number of arguments and has lost be friends. 😛 In the end though it’s all a choice. Even if we don’t like the choices we have.

Yeah…. saying things are a choice, though… easier to say than do sometimes. Choosing what you want for dinner is one thing… choosing to not over-react is a lot harder! Doable, sure, but sometimes a real challenge.

Couldn’t agree more on that point. It’s a pity really, but all too true.
